Membership Details
There’s been a small but steady trickle of members updating their membership details via the detailsupdate@eeas-unison.com facility. Their efforts are very much appreciated because this quick and simple act contributes a great deal towards establishing accurate membership records and in turn enables us to distribute relevant information, consultation/ballot papers and other branch related items (i.e. the annual diaries) to our members at both work and home addresses.
If you didn’t get a diary or a ballot form for the recent officer elections, it is most likely because your form had been sent to the address we currently have on the system as opposed to the one you actually live or work at or it could even be because you are showing as “lapsed” on our system.
Having taken on the role of membership officer again (albeit for an interim period) it’s been disappointing to see that very little appears to have improved since my previous foray into this field where a significant proportion of member details were incorrect or missing altogether!!
Now…members may mistakenly assume that this is the responsibility of the branch’s membership officer but this is a misconception as it is in fact, the individual’s responsibility to ensure that their details are updated as soon as they change as well as regularly checking their wage slips or bank statements to ensure that their subscriptions are being deducted.
It is generally only when a problem occurs (such as when a member seeks advice) or during a branch-wide membership exercise that these errors and/or oversights are highlighted and the time involved in back-tracking or reinstating membership is greater than that involved in simply checking/updating in the first place.
The current branch has undertaken 3 branch-wide data correction exercises since formerly merging in April 2007 but sadly, the returns have been consistently poor which is not only a concern but also a shame because updating your details is SO simple!
It takes just a couple of minutes to put your current details into an e-mail and send it to detailsupdate@eeas-unison.com (about as long as it takes a kettle to boil or the duration of a commercial break in Corrie!) so please give it a go because even if you don’t think your details will have changed you’d be surprised by how many do actually differ from those provided at the time of joining the union. If you use this particular e-mail address, I will send you a confirmation e-mail as soon as your details have been updated.
