The long-awaited publication a report into the use and operation effectiveness of ASW's (known as ECA's) has been commissioned by the South Western Ambulance Service Trust.
The report titled "ECA 360 Evaluation – Staff Perceptions" has been prepared for the South Western Ambulance Service by independent consultants Fusion Limited.
However, the document is based purely on the attitudes and perceptions of the South Western Ambulance Service paramedics and EMT's staff towards the ECA role – actual operational statistics (and other actual data relating to the ECA role) have not been used in this document. In broad terms, the objective of the research is to assess SWAST staff attitudes, perceptions and experiences of working as or working with Emergency Care Assistants (ECAs) – and ultimately to assess the perceived impact of the introduction of the role on the service, on staff and on patient care.

UNISON continues to oppose this new role if it means appointing ECA's / ASW's to emergency front line duties.
