Training and development

At UNISON, we value the contribution of every workplace representative and understand that they need and deserve considerable back-up and support.

This support includes new, straightforward resources and training to encourage reps to get active, and to help them work effectively from within their branch.

Initially, all new stewards are encouraged to go on an induction course and on a course for handling grievances and disciplinaries.

After that, stewards receive regular information on a wide range of other training courses, as we want to make it as easy as possible for reps to put into practice what they have learnt.

These flexible activities have been specifically designed to help branch officers, stewards, union learning representatives and health and safety representatives explore the best ways to approach organising roles within their branch.

They are all designed to build confidence, tackle obstacles and barriers, and highlight daily workplace situations that offer recruitment opportunities.

You will be entitled to paid time off work for these training courses.
